Swainston Middle School underwent a comprehensive modernization that extended beyond the HVAC upgrades typically included in similar CCSD projects. TJK provided mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and technology engineering services for improvements throughout the 154,884 square foot campus, bringing major building systems and technology infrastructure up to current standards.

The project included upgrades to the central plant, including larger chillers designed with 100 percent redundancy, along with new boilers and improvements to HVAC equipment and controls throughout the school. TJK also designed plumbing and waste system improvements, new lighting controls, emergency power upgrades, and replacement of the school’s low voltage systems with new equipment and telecommunications rooms.

A key consideration throughout design and construction was maintaining school operations while extensive renovations were underway. TJK developed the engineering documents and phasing with this requirement in mind, allowing areas of the campus to remain operational as building systems were replaced and upgraded.
